In september en oktober 2021 werkte kunstenaar/curator Holger Nickisch verder aan zijn project ‘De Praktikant’. Dit germanisme betekent ‘stagiair’ en dat is precies wat Holger in samenwerking met partners in de wijk doet. Hij stelt zich ten dienste om in cocreatie de wijk (cultureel) toekomst-proof te maken. Zo loopt hij al enige tijd mee met de lokale gebiedsmakelaar Mohamed Azahaf, waarvoor hij een herinrichting van de Derkinderenstraat ontwerpt: duurzaam, autovrij en met zwemwater. En sinds kort heeft hij Mohamed Mahdi als begeleider die hem vanuit stichting voor Arabische literatuur El Hizjra om straatbibliotheken vraagt. Hier komen Holgers skills als meubelmaker van pas.
Rode draad in zijn werk als kunstenaar en curator is het activeren van de publieke ruimte. Dit is ook te zien in een retrospectief van zijn projecten in de ruimte van Bureau Postjesweg, te bezoeken op afspraak of tijdens de eindpresentatie op 21 oktober.

‘De Praktikant’ toetst het discours over participatieve kunst in de praktijk op basis van wederkerigheid op micro niveau in Amsterdam Nieuw-West.

In September and October 2021, artist/curator Holger Nickisch continued to work on his project ‘De Praktikant’. This Germanism means ‘trainee’ and that is exactly what Holger does in collaboration with partners in the district. He is committed to making the neighborhood (culturally) future-proof through co-creation. For example, he has been working with the local social area connector Mohamed Azahaf for some time, for which he is designing a redevelopment of Derkinderenstraat. Sustainable, car-free and with bathing water. And recently he has Mohamed Mahdi from foundation for Arabic literature El Hizjra as a guide, who asks him for street libraries. This is where Holger’s skills as a furniture maker come in handy.
The common thread in his work as an artist and curator is the activation of public space. This can also be seen in a retrospective of his projects in the space of Bureau Postjesweg, which can be visited by appointment or at the final presentation on October 21.
