Bushra Arbawi en Joana Čuiko werkten tijdens een korte artist-in-residency verder aan hun performance uit 2021. Als performance kunstenaars werken ze vanuit de (on)mogelijkheden van de projectruimte en haar sociale en fysieke context. De try outs zijn donderdag 3 februari bij Bureau Postjesweg (’s middags en ‘s avonds bij wisselend licht). Maximaal 12 bezoekers per keer, dus reserveer op tijd!
Wij houden ons aan de huidige Covid-19 maatregelen. Toon bij bezoek uw Corana-toegangsbewijs via de app of op papier.
Bushra en Joana over Co-Existence:
‘We onderzoeken in een meerjarenproject onze relatie met interconnectiviteit; ons afvragend wie we zijn als fysieke materie en hoe onze omgeving ons (her)vormt.
Hoe verbinden we ons met elkaar? De westerse cultuur voedt ons op met een ideaalbeeld van onafhankelijke individuen die kunnen kiezen om te zijn wie we willen zijn. Hoe benaderen we dit ideaal in een culturele omgeving die juist inherent onderling afhankelijk is?
We zijn druk bezig om in elkaars huid te kruipen. Is dit ons verlangen naar verbinding of onze honger naar macht en controle? Wat proberen we te beheersen? Ideologieën en beelden die worden gecreëerd terwijl we met elkaar omgaan, houden ons vast in een web dat tegelijk ingebeeld en echt is.
Dit web is zichtbaar in een dans. Wat drijft onze (verlangens naar) verbondenheid? Wat ons verbindt, kan ons ook scheiden. (…)’

During a brief artist-in-residency Bushra Arbawi and Joana Čuiko continued to work on their 2021 performance. As performing artists they work from the (im)possibilities of the projectspace and its physical and social context. The try outs are on 3 February at Bureau Postjesweg (afternoon or evening in changing light). Max. 12 visitors at a time, so book in time!

Bushra and Joan about Co-Existence:
‘In a multi-year project we are exploring our relationship with interconnectivity; questioning who we are as physical matter and how our surrounding (re)shapes us.
How do we connect with each other? Western culture raises us with an ideal of independent individuals that can choose to be who we want to be. How do we approach this ideal in a culture that is an inherently interdependent environment?
We are busy trying to get under each other’s skin. Is this our craving for connection or our hunger for power and control? What do we try to control? Ideologies and images that are created as we interact hold us in a web that is simultaneously imagined and real.
This web is visible in a dance. What drives our (desire for) connectedness? What connects us can separate us as well. (…)’
