Expositie Heidi Vogels
Met de filminstallatie Assembly – Gardens of Fez toont Heidi Vogels fragmenten uit een overkoepelend filmproject dat toewerkt naar een single-screen film (2022). Dit project komt voort uit haar langdurig onderzoek in Marokko naar de verdwijnende binnentuinen in de medina van Fez: ze geeft toegang tot een minder zichtbare geschiedenis van de stad en de rol die verbeelding hierbij speelt.

Door te kijken via de blik en verhalen van anderen kan de beleving van een stad veranderen. De film is een gesprek met een plek. Op deze plek worden binnen- en buitenruimtes deel van een narratief over de verschillende dimensies van een gedeelde realiteit, een wereld binnen een wereld; een heterotopie.

De presentatie van Assembly – Gardens of Fez bij Bureau Postjesweg is onderdeel van het meerjarige programma Garden Collectives. Hier vervolgt Heidi Vogels het onderzoek naar de tuin als ruimte van verbeelding in de wijken van de voormalig Westelijke Tuinsteden. Binnen dit gegeven nodigt zij andere kunstenaars uit en organiseerde zij met Erik Hagoort eerder dit jaar een Art Summer School bij New Metropolis voor deelnemers uit Nieuw-West.

Tijdens de tentoonstellingsperiode vinden er in besloten kring vertoningen plaats van de film-in-ontwikkeling met bewoners uit Nieuw-West. Als uitnodiging om samen actief te kijken, denken en herinneren, vanuit een persoonlijke beleving en in relatie tot de lokale context van de wijk.

Wij houden ons aan de huidige Covid-19 maatregelen die door de Nederlandse overheid zijn uitgevaardigd. Toon bij bezoek uw Corana-toegangsbewijs via de app of op papier.

Assembly – Gardens of Fez kwam tot stand met bijdragen van AFK, Heutink Groep, Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Stadsdeel Nieuw-West, Stichting Stokroos, VSBfonds en MTS Audiovisueel.

Heidi Vogels is initiator van het programma Garden Collectives en lid van collectief Bureau Postjesweg.

Program

Exhibition Heidi Vogels
With the film installation Assembly – Gardens of Fez Heidi Vogels shows fragments of an overarching film project that is working towards a single-screen film (2022). This project stems from her long-term research in Morocco into the disappearing gardens of the medina of Fez: she opens up access to a less visible history of the city and the role that imagination plays in this.

The way a city is experienced can be altered by looking through other people’s eyes and through the lens of their stories. The film is a conversation with a place. In this place, interior and exterior spaces become part of a narrative concerning the different dimensions of a shared reality, a world within a world; a heterotopia.

The presentation of Assembly – Gardens of Fez at Bureau Postjesweg is part of the long-term program Garden Collectives. Here, Heidi Vogels continues her research into the garden as a space of imagination. Within this setting, she invites other artists in the neighbourhoods of the former Western Garden Cities. Earlier this year she and Erik Hagoort organised an Art Summer School at New Metropolis for participants from Nieuw-West.

During the exhibition, private screenings of the film will take place with residents of Nieuw-West. As an invitation to actively look, think and remember, from a personal experience and in relation to the local context of the neighbourhood.
